TENS for dogs with EMS combines two electrical stimulation functions in one compact, dual-channel device. The Ortocanis system is designed for integration into a canine rehabilitation program developed and supervised by a veterinarian, animal physiotherapist or other qualified professional.

The set includes a digital TENS and EMS device, two connection cables and four reusable round rubber electrodes. Conductive gel and the required 9 V battery are not included.

TENS for Dogs with EMS

TENS stands for transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation. In professional rehabilitation protocols, this form of sensory stimulation may be used as part of an approach for managing discomfort.

EMS stands for electrical muscle stimulation. It produces controlled muscle contractions and may be incorporated into certain rehabilitation programs when active movement is limited or progressive muscle stimulation has been recommended.

The appropriate function, settings, electrode placement and session duration depend on the dog’s condition and the objectives established by the professional responsible for its care.

This equipment should not be used without appropriate instruction.

Two Independent Channels

The Ortocanis device features two independent stimulation channels. This configuration allows the professional to use four electrodes and adjust the treatment setup according to the targeted muscle area.

Each channel must be connected and adjusted according to the manufacturer’s instructions and the protocol provided by the veterinarian or rehabilitation professional.

The device offers five TENS modes and two EMS modes. Several parameters can be adjusted, including frequency, pulse width, stimulation time, contraction time and rest time.

These options make the unit versatile, but they also require informed use. Settings should never be selected by trial and error.

What Is Included?

The set includes:

• One digital TENS and EMS device
• Two connection cables
• Four reusable round rubber electrodes measuring 45 mm
• Required connection accessories
• Manufacturer’s instructions

Not included:

• Conductive contact gel
• Standard 9 V battery

Because Ortocanis cannot ship the gel or battery outside its authorized European delivery area, Canadian and American customers must purchase these items separately.

Use only an appropriate conductive gel recommended for electrical stimulation applications.

Reusable Rubber Electrodes

The four round electrodes are made from reusable conductive rubber and must be used with contact gel.

The gel helps establish consistent contact between the electrode and the dog’s skin. Depending on the coat and treatment location, it may be possible to use the electrodes without completely shaving the dog.

Separate the fur carefully, hydrate the skin as directed and apply enough conductive gel to establish uniform contact. Poor contact may produce inconsistent stimulation or skin irritation.

The electrodes can be washed with water and reused when maintained according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Inspect each electrode and cable before every session. Do not use a damaged, cracked or excessively worn component.

Professional Guidance Is Essential

Before the first session, ask the veterinarian or rehabilitation professional to demonstrate:

• Correct electrode placement
• Appropriate TENS or EMS mode
• Initial intensity
• Frequency and pulse-width settings
• Recommended session duration
• Signs that require stopping treatment

Begin at a low intensity and increase it only according to professional instructions.

The dog must remain calm and be monitored throughout the session. Stop immediately if the dog shows distress, agitation, muscle spasms outside the intended area, skin irritation or unusual discomfort.

Do not reposition electrodes or change the program during treatment without appropriate guidance.

Important Precautions

Do not place electrodes over the head, front of the neck, heart area, broken skin, infected areas or regions with reduced skin integrity unless specifically directed by a veterinarian.

Ask for veterinary authorization before using the device if the dog:

• Has a cardiac condition
• Has a neurological condition
• Has a skin disorder
• Has an implanted electronic device
• Is pregnant
• Has epilepsy or a history of seizures
• Has reduced sensation in the treatment area
• Has a complex or undiagnosed medical condition

This list does not replace the manufacturer’s complete instructions or professional assessment.

Keep the device, cables and electrodes away from water during operation. Remove the battery before extended storage and keep the equipment out of reach of children and animals.

Cleaning and Storage

Turn the device off and disconnect all cables before cleaning.

Wash the reusable electrodes according to the manufacturer’s directions and allow them to dry completely. Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not immerse the electronic unit or expose it to excessive moisture.

Store the equipment in a clean, dry location with the cables arranged loosely to prevent damage.

ConceptASR Vet Assistance

ConceptASR Vet provides personalized assistance in English and French concerning the included components and general product information.

The TENS for dogs with EMS is rehabilitation equipment. It does not replace a veterinary diagnosis, treatment plan or professional monitoring. ConceptASR does not determine electrode placement or prescribe stimulation settings.
