Comfortable support for assisted walking
The Walking Assistance Harness for Dogs by Ortocanis is a comfortable ventral support designed for dogs experiencing difficulty standing, walking or maintaining their balance. Its wide support area is positioned underneath the abdomen, allowing the owner to gently assist the dog during everyday movements without having to bend down excessively.
This mobility aid is particularly useful for medium and large dogs requiring temporary or regular assistance. It may be used around the home, during short supervised walks, when getting into or out of a vehicle, or as part of a mobility and rehabilitation program recommended by an animal health professional.
The harness does not replace the dog’s natural movement. Instead, it allows the caregiver to support part of the dog’s weight while the animal continues using the strength and mobility it still has.
Wide ventral support area
Unlike a narrow lifting strap, the Ortocanis Walking Assistance Harness features a broad abdominal support section. This design helps distribute assistance over a larger area of the dog’s abdomen and limits concentrated pressure points.
The inside is lined with soft fleece to promote comfort during use. Internal reinforcement helps the harness maintain its shape when gentle upward assistance is applied.
The harness should always be positioned carefully. It must not press uncomfortably against the rib cage, genitals or another sensitive area. This product is intended to support the dog during walking and transfers; it must not be used to suspend the animal completely in the air.
Adjustable handles for the caregiver
The lifting handles can be adjusted according to the height of the dog and caregiver. This makes it easier for the owner to maintain a more comfortable and natural posture while assisting the animal.
Properly adjusted handles can reduce the need to bend deeply when helping a medium or large dog stand or move. They also allow the caregiver to apply assistance progressively instead of suddenly lifting the dog.
Always provide support gently and allow the dog to keep as much natural contact with the ground as possible.
Everyday uses
The Walking Assistance Harness may be useful when helping a dog:
- Stand up from a resting position
- Take its first steps after getting up
- Walk across a slippery surface
- Maintain better balance during short walks
- Cross a small step or doorway threshold
- Get into or out of a vehicle
- Go outside for a bathroom break
- Move around the home
- Participate in supervised mobility exercises
- Recover following certain injuries or veterinary procedures
- Manage temporary or age-related weakness
- Maintain daily activity with additional support
The suitability of this harness depends on the dog’s physical condition, anatomy and mobility requirements. Consult a veterinarian or canine rehabilitation professional if the dog has recently undergone surgery, is experiencing significant pain or has a neurological or orthopedic condition.
How to put on the harness
Unfold the harness and position the soft fleece-lined surface against the dog’s abdomen. Place the wide support section underneath the area where assistance is required.
Bring the sides of the harness upward around the dog’s body and secure the hook-and-loop closure. The harness should remain securely positioned without compressing the abdomen or interfering with the dog’s breathing and natural movement.
Adjust the handles to a height that allows you to stand comfortably while assisting the dog. Before beginning to walk, apply gentle upward support and verify that the harness remains correctly positioned.
Start with short sessions so the dog can gradually become accustomed to the sensation of assisted walking. Inspect the dog’s skin after each of the first few uses and discontinue use if you notice persistent redness, irritation or unusual discomfort.
Choosing the correct size
Measure the complete circumference of the dog’s abdomen at the exact location where the harness will be positioned. Use a flexible measuring tape and make sure it remains level around the body.
Available sizes:
- XS: abdominal circumference from 44 to 54 cm
- S: abdominal circumference from 55 to 66 cm
- M: abdominal circumference from 60 to 77 cm
- L: abdominal circumference from 78 to 87 cm
- XL: abdominal circumference from 88 to 98 cm
Sizes S and M overlap slightly. When the dog’s measurement falls within this overlapping range, consider the dog’s body shape and the exact location requiring support. The ventral section should be wide enough to provide stable assistance without interfering with movement.
Do not select the size based only on the dog’s breed or approximate weight.
Care instructions
The Walking Assistance Harness is manufactured from soft yet durable materials and can be machine washed. Close the hook-and-loop fastening before washing to help protect the fabric.
Allow the harness to air dry completely before using it again. Regularly inspect the handles, seams, fastener and fleece lining for wear or damage.
Once rolled up, the harness takes up very little space and can easily be stored in a vehicle, carrying bag or near the area where the dog usually requires assistance.
