Balanced front and rear support
The Full Support Harness for Dogs by Ortocanis is an all-in-one mobility aid designed to provide simultaneous support for the front and rear portions of the dog’s body. Its full-body configuration allows a caregiver to assist the animal with greater balance and control than a rear-only lifting harness.
Developed with canine mobility and rehabilitation needs in mind, this harness may be suitable for senior dogs, dogs experiencing generalized weakness and animals requiring supervised assistance during recovery.
The harness can help owners support a dog while standing, walking, changing position or completing everyday transfers. Its two support areas allow assistance to be distributed more evenly instead of concentrating the lifting force under only one part of the body.
Full-body assistance
The front section supports the dog around the chest and shoulders, while the rear section provides assistance around the pelvis and hindquarters. The two sections work together to provide balanced support along the body.
This configuration allows the caregiver to adjust the level of assistance according to the dog’s needs. For example, more help can be provided at the rear for a dog with weak hind legs, while the front section contributes to stability and control.
The dog should continue to use the strength and mobility it safely retains. The harness is intended to provide partial assistance and must not be used to suspend the animal completely in the air.
Durable padded Cordura nylon
The Full Support Harness is manufactured from resistant black Cordura nylon. This technical fabric provides strength and durability for repeated supervised use.
Thick padding helps improve comfort around the areas of the body where support is applied. The broad support panels also help distribute pressure over a larger surface.
Only the black colour is available.
Always ensure that the harness lies flat against the dog’s body. Folded material, twisted straps or incorrectly positioned buckles may create uncomfortable pressure points.
Adjustable straps and quick-release buckles
The adjustable straps allow the harness to be adapted to the dog’s chest and body shape. Quick-release buckles facilitate putting the harness on and removing it while helping keep the support sections securely positioned.
Before each use, verify that every buckle is completely closed and that the straps are properly adjusted. The fit should be secure without restricting breathing, circulation or natural movement.
The harness should not shift excessively when gentle lifting assistance is applied.
When can the full support harness be used?
This harness may be useful when helping a dog:
- Stand after resting
- Maintain its balance while walking
- Move across a slippery surface
- Cross a small step or threshold
- Get into or out of a vehicle
- Go outside for a bathroom break
- Change position during supervised care
- Participate in controlled rehabilitation activities
- Manage age-related weakness
- Recover following certain injuries or procedures
- Cope with weakness affecting several limbs
- Receive balanced front and rear assistance
The harness may be incorporated into a mobility or rehabilitation program recommended by a veterinarian or qualified canine rehabilitation professional.
It does not diagnose or treat an orthopedic or neurological condition. Sudden weakness, pain, paralysis or changes in the dog’s gait should always be evaluated by a veterinarian.
How to choose the correct size
Use a flexible sewing tape to measure the complete circumference of the dog’s chest. Take the measurement while the dog is standing naturally whenever possible.
The measuring tape should remain level around the body without compressing the fur or skin.
Available sizes:
- S: chest circumference from 36 to 46 cm — generally under 7 kg
- M: chest circumference from 47 to 66 cm — approximately 7 to 12 kg
- L: chest circumference from 67 to 79 cm — approximately 12 to 20 kg
- XL: chest circumference from 80 to 110 cm — approximately 20 to 30 kg
- XXL: chest circumference from 111 to 120 cm — approximately 30 to 50 kg
Chest circumference is the principal sizing measurement. The weight ranges are approximate and should not be used as the only selection criterion.
If the measurement falls between two sizes, Ortocanis recommends choosing the smaller size. Contact ConceptASR if you are uncertain about the correct size or if your dog has an unusual body shape.
Fitting and adjustment
Open the quick-release buckles and loosen the adjustable straps before positioning the harness. Place the front support section around the chest and position the rear support around the hindquarters.
Make sure the connecting straps remain straight and do not twist. Close each buckle and adjust the straps gradually until the harness remains stable against the dog’s body.
Check that the dog can breathe normally and move its legs without obstruction. Verify the positioning around the abdomen and genital area before allowing the dog to walk or go outside.
Apply only gentle upward assistance during the first few steps. Begin with short sessions on a level, non-slip surface and allow the dog time to become comfortable with the harness.
Safe use
The harness should always be used under the supervision of a responsible adult. Never leave the dog unattended while wearing the product.
Regularly inspect the dog’s skin, particularly around the chest, abdomen, inner thighs and any area touching a buckle or strap.
Discontinue use if you notice:
- Persistent redness
- Skin irritation
- Swelling
- Chafing
- Increased pain
- Difficulty breathing
- Unusual stress or resistance
Inspect the fabric, padding, handles, straps, seams and buckles before every use. Do not use the harness if any component is damaged or excessively worn.
