Dog wheelchair extension bars help adapt the length of a compatible Ortocanis adjustable wheelchair for dogs with a longer body shape. This set includes two matching bars designed to extend the wheelchair frame while maintaining a balanced and appropriate fit.

Dog Wheelchair Extension Bars – Set of 2

The Ortocanis dog wheelchair extension bars are replacement-length components intended exclusively for compatible Ortocanis adjustable dog wheelchairs.

The standard wheelchair frame offers several adjustment points. However, some dogs may require additional frame length because of their body proportions. These extension bars provide another fitting option when the original bars do not offer sufficient length.

Both bars should be installed together to maintain equal frame length on each side of the wheelchair.

When Are Extension Bars Needed?

A dog may require longer wheelchair bars when:

• The dog has a long body in proportion to its height
• The standard frame cannot be extended far enough
• The wheelchair supports do not align correctly with the dog’s body
• A rehabilitation professional recommends a longer frame configuration
• Replacement bars of a different length are required
• The dog’s measurements have changed since the wheelchair was originally purchased

These bars should not be ordered based only on breed. Dogs of the same breed can have different body lengths, weights and proportions.

If the existing wheelchair appears too short, contact ConceptASR before ordering. We can help you review the wheelchair model, the dog’s approximate weight and the length required.

Designed for Compatible Ortocanis Wheelchairs

This set is intended for use with the Ortocanis adjustable dog wheelchair. Compatibility with wheelchairs produced by other manufacturers is not guaranteed.

The extension bars are not a complete wheelchair and do not include wheels, harnesses, supports or the other components required to create a mobility system.

Before ordering, confirm that the existing wheelchair is an appropriate Ortocanis model and that the selected bars correspond to its configuration.

Do not force incompatible components into the wheelchair frame or modify the bars. Unapproved modifications could affect the fit, balance or security of the mobility equipment.

Selecting the Correct Bars

Two selections are required when ordering:

• The required bar length
• The dog’s approximate body weight

The weight range helps identify the wheelchair configuration with which the bars must be compatible. The selected length must provide enough space for proper positioning without making the frame unnecessarily long.

Review the existing wheelchair and its original ordering information whenever possible. If you do not know which length to select, measure the dog and contact ConceptASR Vet before completing the order.

Depending on the situation, helpful information may include:

• The dog’s approximate weight
• The dog’s body length
• The floor-to-groin measurement
• The size of the existing wheelchair
• Photographs of the dog standing in the wheelchair
• Photographs of the current frame and adjustment points

Providing accurate information can help reduce the risk of ordering an incompatible component.

Installation and Adjustment

Install both dog wheelchair extension bars according to the instructions provided with the compatible wheelchair. The left and right sides must be adjusted evenly.

Before placing the dog in the wheelchair:

• Confirm that both bars are securely connected
• Verify that the frame has equal length on both sides
• Tighten all fasteners and adjustment points
• Check the alignment of the harnesses and supports
• Ensure that the wheels remain properly positioned
• Inspect the frame for movement or instability

After installation, place the dog in the wheelchair and examine its posture carefully. The frame should support the mobility system without causing the dog to lean, twist or stand in an unnatural position.

The harnesses and supports should fit securely without restricting breathing or placing excessive pressure on the chest, abdomen or groin.

Checking the Wheelchair Fit

A properly adjusted wheelchair should allow the dog to move its front legs naturally and maintain a balanced posture.

The extension bars affect the length of the frame, so the position of the other wheelchair components may also require adjustment. Recheck every strap, support and attachment point after changing the bars.

Begin with a brief, supervised session on a firm, level and non-slip surface. Watch the dog’s movement and confirm that the wheelchair remains stable.

Stop using the wheelchair if you notice unusual resistance, instability, persistent skin irritation, fatigue or discomfort. Consult a veterinarian or qualified canine rehabilitation professional if you are uncertain about the dog’s posture or the suitability of the equipment.

Care and Safety

Inspect the extension bars and wheelchair frame before every use. Do not use any component that appears bent, cracked, loose or excessively worn.

Keep the bars clean and dry. Follow the wheelchair manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning, assembly and routine inspection.

A dog should always be supervised while using mobility equipment. Avoid stairs, steep inclines, deep snow, unsafe terrain and areas where the wheels or frame could become trapped.

Assistance from ConceptASR Vet

ConceptASR Vet provides personalized assistance in English and French. We can help customers review measurements and identify the appropriate components for a compatible Ortocanis wheelchair.

Dog wheelchair extension bars are fitting accessories and do not replace professional veterinary assessment, treatment or rehabilitation. If your dog’s posture, weight, strength or mobility has changed, consult an animal health professional before modifying the wheelchair configuration.
