Blood pressure, or systemic blood pressure, is the pressure of the blood in the arteries of the systemic circulation (main circulation). We also talk about blood pressure (or simply blood pressure for short) because this pressure is also the force exerted by the blood on the walls of the arteries, which tends them (see the article Mechanical tension). Strictly speaking, the tension in the artery wall is a direct result of the pressure.
