BD SafetyGlide 21G needle with shielding mechanism
The BD SafetyGlide 21G needle is a safety-engineered hypodermic needle intended for general-purpose professional use. It combines a regular hypodermic needle with an integrated shielding mechanism designed to cover the needle after the procedure.
Each needle measures 21G × 1½ in, equivalent to approximately 3.81 cm, and features a green hub for convenient gauge identification. The product is supplied sterile and individually packaged in a box containing 50 needles.
Safety-engineered design
The BD SafetyGlide™ needle incorporates a protective shielding mechanism. Once the procedure has been completed, the safety arm can be activated to move over the exposed needle.

21G × 1½-inch hypodermic needle
The needle has a gauge of 21G and a length of 1½ in (3.81 cm). It is equipped with a regular hypodermic tip and is designed for general professional applications, subject to the clinical judgment of the qualified user.
The green hub follows the commonly used colour-identification system for 21-gauge needles. This visual distinction can make the required gauge easier to identify when several needle sizes are stored in the same supply area.
Luer-Lok connection
The needle is manufactured with a Luer-Lok hub for attachment to a compatible syringe. The locking connection helps keep the needle securely attached during preparation and use.
The syringe is not included with this product. Before beginning a procedure, the professional must ensure that the selected syringe is compatible and that the connection is properly secured.
Sterile and individually packaged
Every BD SafetyGlide 21G needle is supplied in an individual sterile package. The packaging helps preserve the product’s sterility until it is opened for use.
The package should be inspected before opening. The needle should not be used if its packaging is open, damaged or past the indicated expiry date. The protective needle cap must remain in place until the product is ready to be used.
Single-use medical device
This is a disposable, single-use product. It must not be reused, reprocessed or resterilized.
Immediately after use and activation of the protective mechanism, the entire needle assembly must be discarded in an approved sharps container. Disposal must follow the healthcare facility’s procedures and all applicable local requirements.
