A drag bag for paralyzed dogs protects the chest, abdomen, hindquarters and rear limbs when a dog moves indoors using its front legs. The Ortocanis drag bag provides a durable sliding surface between the dog’s body and the floor, helping reduce direct friction and contact with indoor surfaces.

Drag Bag for Paralyzed Dogs

The Ortocanis drag bag is designed for dogs with hind-leg paralysis or severely reduced rear-limb mobility.

Some dogs remain active with their front legs even when they cannot stand or walk using their hind legs. Inside the home, these dogs may pull their body across the floor to change location, reach a family member or move toward food and water.

Repeated dragging can expose the chest, abdomen, hips, legs and paws to friction. The drag bag encloses and protects these areas while allowing the dog to continue using its front legs.

Designed for Indoor Mobility

This product is intended primarily for movement on safe indoor surfaces.

The durable nylon exterior slides more easily than exposed fur or skin and creates a protective layer between the dog and the floor. It may also help contain minor leaks and protect bedding or blankets for dogs experiencing incontinence.

The drag bag does not restore the ability to walk and should not be presented as a replacement for a properly fitted wheelchair. A wheelchair may be more appropriate for supported exercise or outdoor mobility, while the drag bag provides a practical option for certain supervised movements inside the home.

A veterinarian or qualified canine rehabilitation professional can help determine how each mobility aid should be incorporated into the dog’s routine.

Protective Nylon Construction

The Ortocanis drag bag is made from special durable nylon and is available in black.

The bag covers the dog’s torso and hindquarters while leaving the head and front legs free. The dog can therefore use its front limbs to reposition itself or move short distances on an appropriate floor.

The product must fit securely without restricting breathing or front-leg movement. It should not create excessive pressure around the neck, chest, abdomen or shoulders.

Inspect the dog’s skin before and after every session, particularly around the edges and adjustment points.

How to Select the Correct Size

Do not select the size based only on the dog’s weight. Weight is provided as a general reference, while the body measurements determine the appropriate fit.

Measure:

• The required body length
• The circumference of the neck
• The circumference of the chest

If the dog normally stretches its hind legs backward, measure from the neck to the tips of the rear toes.

Use a flexible measuring tape and keep it comfortably against the body without pulling it tight. Compare every measurement with the size chart.

Size Chart

• XXS: length 30 cm; neck 17–32 cm; chest 24–40 cm; approximately 1.8–4 kg
• XS: length 37 cm; neck 22–38 cm; chest 30–45 cm; approximately 4–7 kg
• XS–S: length 43 cm; neck 22–38 cm; chest 30–45 cm; approximately 7–11 kg
• S: length 48 cm; neck 31–60 cm; chest 34–50 cm; approximately 11–16 kg
• M: length 55 cm; neck 35–62 cm; chest 38–55 cm; approximately 16–20 kg
• L: length 63.5 cm; neck 42–72 cm; chest 44–60 cm; approximately 20–30 kg

If the dog’s measurements correspond to different sizes, contact ConceptASR Vet before ordering.

Introducing the Drag Bag

Allow the dog to become familiar with the product gradually.

Begin with a short fitting session while the dog is calm. Confirm that the front legs can move freely and that the material is not folded beneath the dog.

During the first movement session, use a clean, level and obstacle-free surface. Supervise the dog continuously and prevent access to stairs, sharp objects, rough flooring and areas where the bag could become caught.

Some dogs may require encouragement and time to understand how to move while wearing the bag.

Remove the product if the dog shows distress, breathing difficulty, persistent resistance, overheating, skin irritation or unusual discomfort.

Important Safety Information

The drag bag is not intended for unsupervised outdoor use or for dragging across abrasive surfaces.

Do not use it on stairs, near swimming pools, around open flames or in any location where the dog could become trapped.

The product should not remain on the dog continuously. Remove it regularly to inspect the skin, allow ventilation and address hygiene needs.

Dogs with incontinence require appropriate cleaning and skin care. The drag bag does not prevent urinary tract infections, pressure injuries or skin conditions. Consult a veterinarian for recommendations concerning bladder management, hygiene and skin protection.

Cleaning and Maintenance

The nylon drag bag is machine washable. Follow the care instructions provided with the product and close fasteners before washing when recommended.

Allow the bag to dry completely before reuse. Inspect the seams, openings and adjustment points after washing.

Do not use the product if the fabric becomes torn, excessively worn or unable to protect the dog’s body effectively.

ConceptASR Vet Assistance

ConceptASR Vet provides personalized assistance in English and French. We can help customers compare the dog’s length, neck and chest measurements with the Ortocanis size chart.

The drag bag for paralyzed dogs is a protective mobility accessory. It does not replace veterinary diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation or professional monitoring.

Consult a veterinarian if your dog develops sudden paralysis, weakness, pain, skin wounds, urinary difficulties or a significant change in mobility.
