The Quick Splint for Dogs is a two-piece clear plastic support designed for rapid fitting on a dog’s front or rear limb. When combined with appropriate soft padding and an adhesive bandage, the two perforated sections support the leg from opposite sides.
Designed by Ortocanis for dogs and cats, this lightweight splint is available in separate front-limb and rear-limb models. It is offered in three sizes and sold as a pair of matching plastic sections.
The clear material allows the covered area to remain more visible than it would with an opaque rigid splint. Perforations in both pieces promote ventilation and provide openings that may accommodate drainage when required by a veterinary professional.
Two-Piece Limb Support
Rather than enclosing the entire limb in a single rigid shell, the Quick Splint for Dogs consists of two separate transparent pieces.
The appropriately selected pieces are positioned on opposite sides of the padded limb. A soft bandage provides cushioning between the plastic and the animal’s skin, while an adhesive bandage secures the complete assembly.
This design helps provide lateral support and allows the splint to be fitted according to the shape and requirements of the supported limb.
Correct padding and application are essential. The clear plastic pieces should not be positioned directly against an unprotected leg.
Front-Limb and Rear-Limb Models
The front-limb and rear-limb models have different vertical heights. Select the type of leg before choosing the size.
Rear-limb sizes
- Small: vertical height of 22.8 cm
- Medium: vertical height of 30.5 cm
- Large: vertical height of 40.6 cm
Front-limb sizes
- Small: vertical height of 30.5 cm
- Medium: vertical height of 40.6 cm
- Large: vertical height of 50.8 cm
Measure the limb vertically according to the recommendations of the veterinary professional responsible for applying the product.
Do not select the model based only on the dog’s weight or breed. Dogs with similar weights can have considerably different limb lengths and proportions.
Sold as a Pair
The product includes two clear plastic splint sections. These two pieces work together on opposite sides of one properly padded limb.
“Sold as a pair” refers to the two components required to create one splint assembly. It does not mean that the package supports two different legs simultaneously.
Select the appropriate quantity according to the veterinarian’s recommendations.
Clear Perforated Plastic
Both pieces are manufactured from clear plastic. The transparent construction can make visual positioning easier during application.
The splint sections are perforated to support airflow through the assembly. The openings may also accommodate drainage when a veterinary professional determines that this is necessary.
The product still requires soft padding, adhesive bandaging and regular inspection. Ventilation openings do not eliminate the possibility of moisture, rubbing or pressure beneath the applied dressing.
Possible Applications
A veterinarian may consider this type of support in situations involving:
- Certain fractures or traumatic injuries
- Soft-tissue trauma
- Temporary postoperative support
- First-aid stabilization
- Conditions requiring lateral limb support
- Short-term immobilization
- Veterinary wound-management protocols
- Situations requiring a rapidly fitted splint
The Quick Splint for Dogs is not intended for owners to diagnose or independently treat an injury. The suitability of the product depends on the location and nature of the condition.
Professional fitting is strongly recommended, particularly when the splint is used following trauma, surgery or a suspected fracture.
Appropriate Padding Is Essential
A layer of soft veterinary padding or bandaging must be applied before positioning the plastic sections. This layer helps protect the skin and creates a more even contact surface.
The two splint pieces are then placed on opposite sides of the limb and secured with an appropriate adhesive bandage.
The complete assembly should remain stable without creating excessive compression. Improperly applied padding or bandaging could produce pressure points, interfere with circulation or allow the splint to move.
Follow the instructions provided by the treating veterinarian regarding the type of padding, bandage tension, positioning and frequency of replacement.
Regular Monitoring
Inspect the dog’s toes and all visible portions of the limb regularly. Watch for:
- Swelling
- Changes in skin colour
- Cold toes
- Persistent redness
- Moisture or odour
- Slipping or rotation
- Damage to the plastic
- Unusual discomfort
- Attempts to chew or remove the dressing
Contact a veterinarian promptly if swelling, circulation changes, increasing pain or other concerning signs appear.
Do not insert objects underneath the bandage to scratch the skin. Keep the complete assembly clean and dry, and protect it from chewing.
Veterinary Application Recommended
Because this product relies on professional padding and bandaging techniques, ConceptASR Vet recommends having the Quick Splint for Dogs fitted or supervised by a veterinarian or qualified animal health professional.
The wearing period, bandage replacement schedule and permitted activity must be determined according to the dog’s diagnosis and recovery plan.
The splint is an orthopedic support product and does not replace veterinary examination, diagnostic imaging, medical treatment, surgery or professional follow-up.
Seek prompt veterinary attention if your dog has sustained a significant injury, cannot bear weight, has an abnormally positioned limb or displays severe pain or swelling.
ConceptASR Vet offers assistance in English and French to help customers review the available front-limb and rear-limb models and their vertical dimensions before ordering.
