Choose a size according to the dog’s complete resting position rather than weight or breed alone. Measure the dog while lying naturally and allow additional room for stretching, turning and changing position.
If the dog falls between two sizes, the larger mattress will generally provide more usable resting space, provided it fits safely in the intended location.
Selecting a Safe Location
Place the mattress on a clean, level and dry floor. The surrounding area should allow the dog to approach and leave the bed without navigating stairs or slippery surfaces.
Keep the mattress away from open flames, heaters and other sources of excessive heat. Do not place it where water can collect underneath.
For dogs with mobility limitations, consider placing a non-slip floor covering around the mattress to improve traction during transfers.
Check that the corners remain flat and that the cover is correctly installed before allowing the dog to use the mattress.
Cleaning and Care
Remove the cover according to the zipper configuration and follow the care instructions supplied with the product. Ortocanis recommends using a gentle wash program.
Allow the cover to dry completely before reinstalling it. Inspect the foam and cover regularly for moisture, damage, excessive wear or odour.
Do not expose the internal foam unnecessarily to direct sunlight. Sunlight may cause the memory-foam or conventional foam material to develop a yellowish colour. According to the manufacturer, this colour change is normal for this type of material and does not affect its quality or performance.
Do not allow the dog to chew, scratch or ingest any part of the mattress. Replace the product if the foam becomes accessible or the cover is significantly damaged.
Supporting Senior and Mobility-Impaired Dogs
Dogs with arthritis or reduced mobility may experience difficulty lowering themselves onto a bed and standing again. A stable mattress with supportive foam and non-slip corners can provide a more suitable resting environment than an unstable or overly soft cushion.
